Poetry Review

Yesterday I got a paper back in my poetry class. It was a poetry book review of Dallas Clayton's "The Greatest Writer Alive". My professor wrote on the paper, "So what makes this poetry as opposed to prose that has line breaks?"

I'll tell you how. You read his writing, and you say, "Oh, how poetic and thoughtful. I like this poem."

That's how. And that's also how you get 75% on your poetry book review.

Also, last night I had a dream that I was taking a two-week break from Pinterest. Because it was required for my poetry class, or something like that. I woke up and thought, "Phew. It was just a dream."

Just kidding. I didn't think that. Because Pinterest is the devil. And I don't really like it very much. And I have 1,755  pins to prove it. [Before you judge me, just go drool over this.]

Can we never mention Pinterest ever again on this blog?

Are you kidding me? You got a 75% because you did Dallas Clayton's book? That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard because I love that book. What makes it poetry? I'll tell you what makes something poetry, obviously stupid poetry teacher. If the author calls it poetry, IT IS. Even if it's not prose with line breaks. And that's all Dallas Clayton writes. Sheesh. I should be teaching that class.

That's the freaking point of poetry. It doesn't have to make sense. If an author writes a paragraph-style novel and calls it poetry, it is. Just like how if Jackson Pollock splatters paint on a canvas, calls it art and puts it in a museum, then it is. You don't have to agree with or understand it. It just IS. However, if you *do* make the effort to understand it, then you will see that those paragraphs are indeed poetic and Pollock's splatters are much more than splatters.

Phew. That's the end now, I think. :)
